History of CASSI
CASSI was formed in the late 1980’s on the Gold Coast. This was a local example of a national movement to set up community based support services for people with a disability.
That was a time of great excitement in the field of disability support. The Commonwealth Government had set up a new funding program that was trying to support new services to provide assistance to people with a disability in integrated settings.
CASSI was set up in 1989 by a small group of families, along with some supporters and with the assistance of other services on the Gold Coast.
Since that time, CASSI has continued to provide support to people with a disability so they can live in the general community and enjoy the benefits that come from being a part of their community.
CASSI offered its expertise to other people with a disability. The service has a great deal of skill, experience and knowledge in working with people who have high and complex support needs. The people who use CASSI’s services have a range of support needs such as complex medical care, neurological conditions, physical impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and acquired brain injuries.
The common theme among the people supported by CASSI is that the assistance required is complex and best provided by our skilled and specialist staff.
Since 2003 CASSI has been working in both Queensland and New South Wales. Today we provide accommodation support, attendant care, community access support and post school services assistance.
CASSI continues to extend its support network, always building on our strength of working with people with a disability who have high and complex care needs. Our future is based on our past success.
